  • first spring shoot

Partied with Thelonious Monk on YouTube last night. Album Straight, No Chaser.

Woke this morning relaxed. Nothing heavy left on my plate.

Sun was out. This was a day for my older Sony, the DSC-HX20V. It has a good macro. While Mary was at mass, I started my shoot with the Cutleaf Toothworts. The light and shade contrast was not favorable and the ground still somewhat muddy, but that was not going to hold me back.

    Cutleaf Toothwort (Cardamine concatenata)

    Henbit (Lamium amplexicaule)

Winding up the early shoot, I noticed the carpenter bees were doing a number on our porch. Mary soon returned and soaked the bees in Raid spray.

Can you see the bee holes?

We had ham for lunch, with jellied cranberry sauce, mustard potato salad, together with cheesy broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. I have a bad habit. I tend to eat everything Mary puts on my plate.

After coffees and a heavy drowse, I headed outside again with the Sony. The light was better.

Cutleaf Toothwort again. This time with better light.

    Rue-anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides)

    Toadstool Trillium

    Hyacinth

It's a sin I know, but I was proud of myself. Some of the flowers, Henbit and Rue-anemones, were tiny. I can't get down where they are. Wouldn't be able to get back up onto my scooter. And, I was proud of the Sony. After all, it's just a small pocketable point-and-shoot camera.

    Satisfying day.

    59.3 °F, clear.

  • oh, my those are so good!!!!!!

  • Straight No Chaser -- excellent choice. You are a civilized man.

  • You should be proud of yourself! Beautiful photography of the flowers, food, ... & you taught me about bee holes.

  • Oh, RYC: I agree with you ... I always go first with chicken noodle soup, herbal teas for sore throat & sinus, & o.j. ... but since my colds have always gone to bronchitis (we think probably as an after effect of polio), I pretty much always end up needing the meds to get over it.

  • I thought the first photos were really good - then the second set blew me away! Really nice!

  • I agree with Val -- these flower shots get better and better through the post!

  • Wow, your camera sure took amazing macro shots of these flowers! nicely done!

Ooo. Mustard potato salad. Excellent choice.

  • Thanks for identifying the flowers. I am terrible at identifying them, as I am at identifying songbirds.

  • The sun seems to be striking a lot softer on the last four photos. 3 and 4 shady and the 5 and 6 soft sun. Sony's are such smart cameras, I have and used to shoot with a point and shoot and a dslr, they take really nice photos. Good job on the photos. I like your go gettum attitude, there is nothing worst than a lazy photographer.

  • I love your photography. Mine is all done with my hell phone. (sorry, I meant cell) As usual, you food looks amazing. Incredible. Awesome. I am comparing my food photos of yours. lol I am not comparing well.

  • I'm ready for Easter! that and Christmas are the only days the antique mall is closed.

  • Yay for spring flowers!
When you mentioned the bees doing a number on your porch, for a moment I wondered if you meant they were dancing or mating, but then I realized you meant their destruction.
Lovely spring day here today. I will take note of new flowers I see.

  • LOVE the flowers of spring! but, I would eat every bite of that good meal too ~ and not feel one bit bad about it ~ ;)
