working magic
The current regulars showed for this week's "Mother's Day": Deborah brought Mother. Delores brought Marion. Andrea came with little Harrison.

Harrison's always in tune with his great-uncle Marion.

Mary made good use of the two eggplants Deborah brought us from the farmers market last week. Made a mouth-watering casserole for our lunch. Also worked her magic on some Walmart stew meat. Turned it into some divine beef smothered in onions. Yum. As if that wasn't enough, she cooked up some rice and angel's hair with peas from George's garden, seared potato slices the way Mother likes, and filled out the plate with some of George's red ripe tomatoes. Kowabunga!Anna is off for a weekend trip, so brought over Leah for Andrea to mind. Andrea had to leave with Leah and Harrison. Otherwise cards would be impossible. That left only four for rummy.

Cards without Andrea; a solemn affair.
Hate to admit it. But, truth be told, these Friday card games are getting to be almost depressing for me. Weigh on my mind. Marion is obviously uncomfortable in his own skin. Can hardly make it to his 2:00 o'clock medication. Mother sucks on one sucker after another, like a baby with its pacifier, fairly oblivious to all else. I suppose I should be comforted by the thought that there are others worse off than I am. But, I'm not.
Mary and I dropped off Mother and Marion at their respective houses. Back home, I got some fresh air.

Mary's dahlias have really come out in this weather.
Checked out the mail. A check from Cosmolab for both months. All caught up. Woo Hoo! Mary and I rushed it to First Farmers.
The outpost welcomed me upon my return.
118 lbs.
72.1 °F, partly cloudy.

You are very in tune with everyone's emotional status - you have a high degree of empathy... I hope you can set aside their "vibes" so that they don't so negatively affect your mood. I'm sure it is hard to watch people hurting and not be able to do anything about it. On a brighter note - Mary's lunch looks delicious! This meal after the gizzards and I want to come live at your house!!
Wow, you really get some phenomenal photos from your outpost.
And wow, Mary really went all-out with that meal!! But it looks miiiiiighty tasty!
Often with the elderly and with those relying on meds, their moods and thoughts are very different than when they were younger/whole. Remembering that can help remove one from their influence. Hang in there! Looks like Mary is a magnificent cook -- and her dahlias are gorgeous as well. And the Outpost gives you a lot of what you need to stay refreshed
!
Mary and the Outpost seem to be giving you refuge from the gloom. Those are the best things on which to focus, along with all your mother must have accomplished in her heyday.
We took care of 3 elderly family members until they passed away---it is tough duty, but the right thing to do.
I hope you find times to de-stress and hear something positive.
Your meals are fabulous.
I like the photo with Marion and Harrisson looking at each other.
and the latest embraces large space . Impressing.
In friendship

The flower picture turned out gorgeous!
My mother used to grow/cook eggplant. It's been quite awhile since I had some, but I do think it is tasty when cooked with sauce and cheese.
the dahlia!!! ~ wow ~
My mom is pushing 90 and rarely finds much to smile about anymore. I heard a joke on the way home from work and trotted right back to tell her before I forgot: Do you know the difference between roast beef and pea soup? Anyone can roast beef. She looked a me blankly for a moment then broke into a broad grin when she got it. Garrison Keillor says that joke will be funny as long as there are third graders...and child-like old folks, I might add.
